Sexton Schedule of Activities

Regular Schedule:

Sunday:  8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. [4 hours]

Sunday schedule notes – restrooms, vacuum, takes at least 1 hour.  Choir arrives at 9:00 a.m.

If programs run past 12:00, e.g., luncheon, may pay for additional hour to help clean up, put tables away, as needed.

Monday – Friday:        6:30 – 9:00 a.m. [12.5 hours]

Flextime: [3.5 hours]

 

Maintain a clean and orderly building

General

  • Floors: Keep all floors clean for Sunday worship and daily activities. (Daily)
  • Dusting: counters, tables, other surfaces. (Weekly)
  • Wet Wipe: counters, tables, other surfaces. (As needed)
  • Trash: Empty wastebaskets and trash cans and consolidate in shed for collection. (Daily)
  • Recycling: Manage recycling bins, consolidate and dispose of appropriately. (Daily)

Specific spaces

  • Restrooms: Clean floors, sinks, and toilets; maintain adequate restroom supplies. (Daily)
  • Beam Nursery and Rooms 1/2 and 10/11: Vacuum and dust for Sunday School use. (Weekly)
  • Sanctuary: incl. balcony, Vacuum, dust mop, and/or mop floors and dust surfaces. (Weekly)
  • Youth Room upstairs: Vacuum and dust. (midweek)
  • Fellowship Hall and the Kitchen: Mop floors and clean sinks. (weekly)
  • Entrance: Snow & Ice:  During the winter, shovel and spread ice melt pellets at rear entrance of the church, the area in front of the trash room, and the emergency exit for the Nursery School as needed.   Salt the playground steps if necessary. (As needed)

 

Minor facilities maintenance  (As needed)

  • Fix clogged or leaky drains, add drain cleaner as needed.
  • Replace light bulbs, batteries; inform supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Provide pest control for ants and rodents, using traps as appropriate. Inform supervisor if an exterminator is needed.
  • Maintain vacuums and other equipment; repair as needed and possible.
  • Perform other maintenance as may be reasonably requested by the staff.
  • Know how to operate mechanicals such as lift, elevator, thermostats, locks.
  • Report any equipment or facility problems immediately to the Finance & Administrative Manager for servicing or repair, e.g., plumbing, heating or electrical problems; broken or missing tiles; kitchen appliances; snow removal and entrance door issues; or security breaches.
  • Advise on special cleaning projects, such as carpet cleaning, to be outsourced.

 

Set up space for use (As needed)

  • Set up chairs and tables for regular meetings during the week.
  • Set up for Sunday events such as coffee hour, lunches, display tables.
  • Set up for special functions as requested, such as dinners, retreats or funerals.
  • Return items to regular room set-ups following events.

 

Manage cleaning and maintenance supplies (Ongoing)

  • Paper supplies such as bathroom towels and toilet paper, paper towel rolls.
  • Cleaning supplies such as hand soap, detergent, bathroom and floor cleaners, trash containers and liners.
  • Winter ice melt pellets as needed, refill buckets at all entrances as needed.

 

Sunday mornings and special events (As needed)

  • Prepare for events by cleaning entrances, opening church, turning on lights, and final cleaning and set up.
  • Assist with any facility issues during service, helping members and staff as needed.
  • After service, perform any major cleanup, and lock building at agreed time.
  • Extra work time may be requested for support of special events. The Sexton/Custodian will be compensated for such extra time at a premium rate of 1.5% of his/her regular rate, with a minimum compensable time of 2 hours.
