In addition to our Sunday worship services being live streamed here each week, we have come up with all sorts of creative ways to continue being a community while practicing social distancing.
Progressive Christian Bible Study
Join Rev. Dr. David Kaden every Thursday at 12 (noon) for a Live Stream Bible Study! Click the “Live” Bible Study link here and join in.
Vespers Service: Sundays at 4:30, outdoors at church
This short outdoor service will include prayers, silence, readings, and music. We meet in the Woodland Chapel behind the church. The service will feature chimes and LED candles and will be accessible to all ages. Please bring your own chair and wear a mask. A few hay bales and stumps will also be available for seating. Physical distancing will be observed.
Below is a list of groups meeting regularly via Zoom. To keep these live meetings secure, these sessions are by invitation only. If you’re interested in attending one of these, please email the office for more information.
Community Conversations: hosted by our senior minister Rev. Dr. David Kaden every Wednesday at 12 (noon). This is an informal get-together for us to chat and catch up with each other.
Women’s Book Group: Mondays at 10:30am
We meet weekly to read a book (to each other) and discuss both the book and life. Recent books include Holy Envy, Learning to Walk in the Dark, Traveling the Highways of Advent, The Book of Forgiving, and Inspired. Email Cindy Marschner <cmarschn@hotmail.
Harry Potter Book Club: Every other Saturday at 10:00 am
This group is for adults, youth, and older children with parental permission. We’re reading to each other, so you can bring your own book or just listen to everyone else! Each week, we pray for people in our world who are in circumstances similar to the characters in the book. In response to recent transphobic quotes by the author, we would like to echo a statement from the Harry Potter and the Sacred Text podcast, “It is not these texts that are magic. It is you. That is why we feel comfortable condemning JK Rowling in her transphobia but still gathering around the books. They aren’t her books, they are ours. And they have inspired us to love more and better. To take care of our friends at the margins. To fight for what’s right.” See the Highland Highlights or email AnnaSannes@fccithaca.org for details.
Youth Racial Justice Action Team
In collaboration with Plymouth Congregational UCC in Syracuse, our two youth groups meet on the first and third Wednesday night of each month to engage in education and action around faith and racial justice. Email AnnaSannes@fccithaca.org for the Zoom link.
Faith & Fun: Sundays at 11:15
3rd-6th graders and 7th-12th graders are invited to a weekly gathering from 3:00-4:00. When weather permits, we meet outdoors at the church. Otherwise, we meet on Zoom. We play games, act out skits, complete service projects, and engage in conversations about faith and our lives. When held outdoors, please wear a mask, maintain physical distance, and use bathrooms prior to visiting. Email AnnaSannes@fccithaca.org with questions.
Men’s Breakfast: Email the office for details.
All of the offerings above are subject to change from week to week as we figure out what works best for our community. We’d love to hear your ideas for other creative ways that we can connect and support each other.
