Outreach Giving Tree - Members of the Outreach Committee invite you to participate again this year in The Giving Tree! The tree will be by the front door beginning today. You are asked to sign up for each selection you make. There is no limit to the number of tags a family or individual may select. Our gifts benefit several local nonprofits including Family and Children’s Services, Beech Tree Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing, Learning Web, Rescue Mission, and OAR (Opportunities, Alternatives & Resources of Tompkins County) which supports inmates in Tompkins County Jail (family visitation service, warm clothing, other support). Please return gifts by Sunday, Dec. 10, according to the instructions on the tag. We thank you for spreading the kindness and generosity of the season from FCC families into our community!
Poinsettias - Please sign up on the sheet in the narthex if you wish to purchase a poinsettia plant in honor of or in memory of someone. Plants will be on display in the sanctuary on Sunday, Dec. 17th. We welcome volunteers to distribute the plants after
that service. Call Jean Wentworth, 257-1916, if you can help. Suggested donation $10-20.
Warm Wooly Tree – Children’s Ministries is collecting NEW winter hats, scarves, mittens and gloves for the Rescue Mission. Please help decorate the tree in the Narthex with these cozy items. The tree will be up December 3rd.
Advent Worship at Kendal – David welcomes members of the congregation to join him in worship with the Kendal community, December 14th at 3pm.
Carol Sing with Ithaca Brass, Sunday December 17, 10 a.m. – The Ithaca College Brass Quintet will join our service this last Sunday before Christmas. After the service they will stay in the sanctuary to play carols by request with all who would like to sing along.
December 17th, 12:30pm – Join the Lunch Bunch at the Ramada Inn.
All-Church Intergenerational Caroling – Sunday, December 17th - 4:00 p.m. meet at the Church – Join in the tradition of sharing the joy of the Christmas season as we sing carols and other holiday favorites to those at the Cayuga Ridge facility. If enough people sign up, we may be able to visit an additional elder care facility and, hopefully, some of our homebound friends. Please sign up on the table in the narthex so that we may plan appropriately.
Advent Garden – Wed. Dec. 20th, 6-7:30pm and Thurs. Dec. 21st,
5-6:30pm. A special holiday event enables participants to walk a Christmas spiral labyrinth created with pine boughs and items from the natural world while Christmas music fills the room. Each person walks one at a time into the spiral with an unlit candle, accompanied and watched over by a "guardian angel". At the center of the labyrinth is a special Christmas decoration with a candle that the participant uses to light their own candle. The candle is placed on a tree stump in the spiral during the outward journey. The spiral gradually becomes filled with candlelight. Children are invited to go first, but the event is for all ages. It is a magical, deeply meaningful and meditative experience. Come and bring friends!
